About the Association
The Literary and Debating Association aims at providing quality lectures and workshops in order to enhance the knowledge of the students with regard to the English language, literature and literary theories. It also helps the students to be abreast of the recent trends in literature. Apart from this, exposure is also provided for a lucid understanding of related fields like Mass Communication and Skill Based Subjects like Photo Journalism and Film Appreciation and Criticism. Interaction with experts from various fields furnishes that extra edge which is but an exercise in confidence building. In short, The Literary and Debating Association strives to make the students excel in every possible manner.
Achievements
- Abisha Martin got proficiency for Core and Allied for 2016-2017 academic year.
- Nandhini Sri.R and Yashashvini Pooja won Second Prize in quiz competition conducted by the Department of History in PSGR Krishnammal College for Women.
- Naveena Christy and Sharmila.R won Third prize in General Knowledge Quiz held in PSGR Krishnammal College for Women.
- Abisha Martin, Aarthy.N, Jayanthi, Harini.J.S, Ashwini.R, Swarnalatha.M, won Second prize in ‘Enacting a Scene’ held in PSG college of Arts and Science on 28.02.2017.
- Ashwathy.S won First prize in Essay Competition held in PSG College of Arts and Science on 28.02.2017.
- Yashashvini Pooja and Ashwathy.S won First and Third prize respectively in Elocution Competition held in PSG College of Arts and Science on 28.02.2017.
- Virginia Thomas and Mary Catherine won First and Second Prize respectively in Potter Mania conducted by the Department of English of PSGR Krishnammal College.
- Deepika .A, Ashwathy.S won First Prize in Kovai Vizha Competition.
- Abisha Martin, Aarthy.N, Swarnalatha.M, Bhavya.A, Harini.JS participated in Shakesperience in Kongunadu College of Arts and Science and won First prize in Drama.
- Illakiya Priya attended the Combined Annual Training Camp for SD/SW and JD/JW held at SSVM World School,Coimbatore and won Gold in Snipe Shooting and Drill.
- Nandini and G.Dharshini participated in National Conference, 2017 held in Palakkad,Kerala on 4.2.17.

Activity Report of the Literary And Debating Association 2016 – 2017
- A mime on the theme “Swachh Bharat” and “Child Safety” was performed by Yi Yuva club and Department of English students of PSGR Krishnammal College for Women at Fun Republic Mall as part of Kovai Vizha 2019 on 6th Jan 2019.
- A Guest lecture was organized by the Literary and Debating Association on the 11th September, 2018 on Content Writing.
- The Department of English under the auspices of Literary and Debating Association conducted One Day International Seminar on “Gender Identity and Equality through Cultural and Social Scape” on 2 August 2018 at Chandra Seminar Hall.
- A workshop on “Art Therapy” was conducted for the students of Literature on July 19, 2018.
- The Department of English conducted a guest lecture on “Social History of England”, for the I year students, on July 10, 2018.
- The Department of English had its Literary and Debating Association inauguration on 3rd July 2018.
- A Guest Lecture on “Neuro Linguistic Program” was organized on 10-03- 2018 in I M.A. English Lecture Hall.
- A Guest Lecture on“Introduction to Literary Criticism” was organized on 12-03- 2018 in III B.A. English Lecture Hall.
- A Guest Lecture on “History of English Literature” was conducted on 07-03-2018 in Training Hall.
- A Video Conference was organized on the “CONCEPT OF WOMANHOOD IN THE SELECT WORKS OF R. K. NARAYAN” on 03-03- 2018 in Multimedia Hall
- A Guest Lecture on “Approaches to Literature” was organized on 02-03- 2018 in M. Phil Lecture Hall.
- A Guest Lecture and Workshop was conducted on Literary Theory on 28th February 2018 in the Training Hall.
- A one day National Seminar on “Cultural Studies: Cultural Confluence in Literature” was organised by Department of English on 16th February 2018 in the Chandra Seminar Hall.
- A Guest Lecture was organized on 31st January 2017, Tuesday, at Chandra Seminar Hall and , Dr. Mrs. Poornavalli Mathiaparanam ,(Rtd )Professor of English ,Educational Consultant Coimbatore, was the chief guest.Dr. Mrs. Poornavalli Mathiaparanam then lectured on T.S. Elitot’s Waste Land . she deliberated on brief biography of T.S.Eliot, his influences,Objective Correlativeness, Surrealistic Images .
- A workshop was conducted on 26 August 2016, Friday at Chandra Seminar Hall by Dr. P. Thailambal, Dean SF (Retired), Sri GVG Visalakshi College for Women, Udumalpet, on Social History of England.
- A Guest Lecture was organized on 01 August 2016, Monday, at Chandra Seminar Hall and Dr. U. Sumathy, Associate Professor, Department of English, Government Arts College, Coimbatore, was the chief guest . Dr. U. Sumathy then lectured on “Ecocriticism” and covered various topics such as environmental justice criticism, definitions of ecocriticism, different methods of reading and the expanding canon of the genre. There was an interesting video clipping on “Man,” (then and now.) The lecture also had a case study on “Enmahaje” in relation to ecocriticism.
- A Guest Lecture was organized on 01 September 2016, Thursday, at Chandra Seminar Hall and Mrs. Pankaja Srinivasan, Deputy Senior Editor, Metro Plus,The Hindu, Coimbatore was the chief guest.
- A community programme was organized by the YI Net of PSGR Krishnammal College for Women in collaboration with Department of English of PSGR Krishnammal College for Women on 27 July, 2016, Wednesday at Fun Republic Mall, Coimbatore. Dr. Vijay Karthikeyan IAS., Commisioner Coimbatore Corporation, was the chief guest.Students of II B.A. English Literature(Aided) performed a mime show on social issues like poverty, pollution, corruption, water scarcity. The show was concluded with a message on how India will be in 2020 and on women empowerment.
- The Literary and debating Association for the year 2016-2017 was inaugurated on 18 July 2016, Monday. Dr. J. Samuelkirubahar was the chief guest. Post the inauguration, Dr. J. Samuelkirubahar delivered a lecture on “Translation- Theory and Practice”.
