About The Programme
The programme of History was introduced in the academic year 1968-1969, established with Under Graduate programme and upgraded to Post Graduate programme in the year 1980. The programme has been recognized as a research programme since 1983 (M.Phil) and 2014 (PhD). Values are instilled through Gandhian Studies Centre, and students are sensitised about their rights and empowerment by Dr. Ambedkar Studies Centre. During the course of more than 50 years of its journey, there have been a number of exemplary achievements and marching towards its destination.
Vision
The programme of History (PG & Research) aims at holistic development through academic excellence, employability in government sector and acquisition of skills in historical research. It seeks to build its students intellectual curiosity to know about the past and its inheritances. The programme seeks to educate students in the complexities of historical inquiry, critical thinking, and to improve their understanding of the world around them.
Mission
The programme facilitates the students to understand the intricate social phenomenon and it helps them to lead a life of wider awareness and responsible citizenship. The programme aims to be an open and welcoming spot for a healthy exchange of ideas and the encouragement of scholarly excellence. It encourages research activities among the students. The students are encouraged and motivated to appear for all competitive exams conducted by the UPSC/TNPSC/ NET & SET.
BA (History)
The programme provides a comprehensive study of Ancient, Medieval and Modern Indian History along with the Contemporary European, American and Far East History, Principles of Modern Government, Indian Constitution, Indian Geography, Indian Culture and Heritage, Elements of Historiography, Indian Archaeology, Human Rights etc. The programme offers an Add-on course in Tourism and Travel Management and Job Oriented Course in Foundation Course for Civil Service Examination. The degree program serves as a basis for higher studies and provides numerous career opportunities after graduation in public and private sectors.

PG programme offers courses such as Indian Women Through the Ages, World Civilisation, European History, Archives Keeping, Indian Government and Politics, Economic History of India, Environmental History of India and Socio, Economic, Political History of India etc. The programme provides employment opportunities in Government Sector and bestowed with research ambience.
