Unnat Bharat Abhiyan

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA)

The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) is a significant initiative launched by the Ministry of Education (formerly Ministry of Human Resource Development), Government of India in 2014. It aims to facilitate rural development by harnessing the expertise and resources of academic institutions. The primary goal is to narrow the gap between rural communities and educational establishments by encouraging colleges and universities to adopt villages and collaborate with local stakeholders to identify and address development needs.

At PSGR Krishnammal College for Women (KCW), the UBA project has been implemented since 2014 with a focus on women's participation through village adoption, participatory approaches, capacity building, technology transfer and innovation, monitoring and evaluation, and knowledge networking. The college has adopted several villages including Ikkaraibooluvampatti, Thennammanallur, Narsipuram, Devarayapuram, and Madampatti.

Under the UBA initiative, PSGRKCW organizes various programs aimed at holistic rural development:

  • Skill Development Workshops: These workshops aim to equip villagers with practical skills that enhance employability and income generation opportunities.
  • Health and Sanitation Campaigns: Programs focused on promoting health awareness, hygiene practices, and improving sanitation facilities in the adopted villages.
  • Environmental Conservation and Sustainable Development: Initiatives aimed at conserving natural resources, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and mitigating environmental degradation.
  • Women's Empowerment Programs: Activities designed to empower women through education, skill-building, entrepreneurship training, and promoting gender equality.
  • ICT Interventions: Utilizing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools to bridge digital divides, improve access to information, and enhance communication in rural areas.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Regular monitoring and evaluation of UBA activities to assess their impact, identify challenges, and refine strategies for better outcomes.

By actively engaging in these programs, PSGRKCW contributes to the holistic development and empowerment of the adopted villages. The college plays a pivotal role in fulfilling the objectives of UBA and fostering positive socio-economic change at the grassroots level. Through collaborative efforts with local communities and stakeholders, PSGRKCW demonstrates a commitment to sustainable rural development and social upliftment.
