UGC Sponsored Centre for Women’s Studies

UGC sponsored Centre for Women’s Studies established in 2004 is committed to advancing gender equality, women’s empowerment, and inclusive development through research, education, advocacy, and global collaboration. The Centre mobilize national and international funding to conduct research on critical women’s issues such as gender-based violence, economic empowerment, and social justice, while contributing to academic discourse through the publication of research papers, reports, and journals. It seeks to establish partnerships with global universities for joint teaching, research, and knowledge exchange, hosting international conferences, workshops, and academic exchanges, and actively participating in global initiatives promoting women’s rights and gender equality.

Implementation

The Centre has a structured and strategic plan to execute its mission through:

  • Funded Research Programs that investigate gender-based issues and inform policy.
  • Curriculum Development that promotes interdisciplinary teaching in collaboration with the Women’s Studies Department and other departments for joint teaching and student exchange.
  • Community-Driven Programmes that sensitize and empower women through skill development and entrepreneurship initiatives.
  • Publication and Dissemination of research findings through peer-reviewed journals, reports, and open-access platforms.
  • International Events that foster thought leadership and build capacity through training, workshops, and conferences.
  • Policy Advocacy informed by data-driven research, targeting local and global stakeholders.

Innovation

The Centre innovatively bridges gaps between theory and practice by:

  • Combining academic inquiry with real-world issues like gender-based violence, economic empowerment, and social justice.
  • Mobilizing multi-source funding (national and international) to sustain research on emerging and under-researched topics in gender studies.
  • Establishing global academic partnerships for joint teaching and collaborative research.
  • Hosting knowledge exchange platforms such as conferences, workshops, and academic exchanges that amplify diverse voices and lived experiences of women across cultures.
