About the Programme
The programme was established in 1967, with the introduction of the UG programme, upgraded to a centre for postgraduate education (MSc) and as a Research Centre for MPhil and PhD in Botany. At present the department has 11 faculty members all with PhD qualification. The Department has been recognized as DST-FIST (Fund for Improvement of Science and Technology Infrastructure in Higher Educational Institutions) sponsored department in 2009 and has been supported by the Star College Scheme/Status of DBT from the year 2012.
Vision
To promote excellence in dissemination and creation of knowledge in Botany, to enable lifelong learning through modern technology with a focus on developing intellectual human resources in Botany, to establish partnership with institutions both public and private which will enable the students and faculty to cross institutional boundaries for scholarly and creative activity with a linkage to community services.
Mission
Encourage the students for higher learning, inculcate research culture in Botany, train both the faculty and students for using sophisticated instruments and motivate to obtain funding projects and to publish papers in journals with high impact factor, strengthen the institute – industry partnership to promote internship and placement in core companies, transfer technology to the society and uplift the population of entrepreneurs.
BSc (Botany)
The programme provides courses such as evolution, biodiversity, structure and function, information flow, exchange, and storage, Pathways and transformations of energy and matter. Opportunities to understand the core concepts in botany are provided through internships and projects.

MSc (Botany)
The programme aspires to produce intellectual and proficient botanists through enhancing the skills of students on latest technology to meet the demands of the research and industry relevant to scientific development and conservation of plant diversity for socio-economic development of the country.
