The aim of the English Literature course at the UG level is to instill comprehensive understanding and humanistic approach to different peoples,cultures and global issues through the study of the various literatures in English as they appear in different forms and genres.
At the UG level ,there is a systematic attempt to train students in relevant subjects as Social History of England and History of English Literature that serve as backgrounds to the study of literature. Study of language introduces the varied levels of linguistic aspects such as phonology, grammar and lexis. Papers in English for the Media, Competitive Examinations and effective communication will guide students to employment opportunities such as writing for the media, content writing, proof reading and editing. As these papers are also Cluster papers, other UG students also benefit. Training is given in Skill Based subjects as Visual Media(New Paper) at the second and third year level to expose them to the world of photo journalism and film making , appreciation and criticism further increasing the avenues of employment and career opportunities. The Open Course is the introduction to soft skills, a much needed element of the educational scenario. Papers exclusively on Shakespeare and Intensive Study of a Writer enable the comprehensive study of the entire oeuvre of a single eminent writer. Literary theories are also introduced to help analytic analysis .
The group project at UG level encourages students to engage in research. Information Security is offered for the current cyber generation.The Advanced Learner’s Course helps academic achievers earn extra credits.
In all the English Literature programme aims to make the student an expert in the subject as well as instill elements of humanity that will make them humane with greater understanding of men and women and the world they live in, through the study of literature.They will also practice the aspects of language that will provide them with communicative skills necessary for a successful career.
