About the Programme
The programme of Zoology was started in the academic year 1979-1980, established with the undergraduate programme which was upgraded to postgraduate programme in the year 2018. Faculty members have undertaken and completed extramural projects sponsored by DST- IEDC, UGC, DST-NRDMS and UBA etc. The department has established an Apiary unit and a Butterfly garden, with the purpose to inculcate the values of environment and conservation; Eco-tourism place to understand nature, environment and ecosystem management at Nilgiri Biosphere Nature Park, Anaikkatti, Coimbatore funded by GRG Trust.
The programme provides a comprehensive study of Animal Biodiversity, Ecology, Embryology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Cell Biology, Genetics, Evolution, Biotechnology, Medical laboratory Techniques, Fishery Science etc. The Department offers an Add-on course in Pathology and Clinical Laboratory Science (Level I, II, III). The degree program serves as a basis for higher studies in the field of modern and applied sciences, an in-depth knowledge of animal sciences, laboratory and fieldwork. There are numerous career opportunities after graduation in public and private sectors.
The department aims to achieve excellence through high-quality education in order to create a better understanding of the living world through experiential learning and outreach activities. The department fosters scientific temperament and research attitude and focuses on the holistic development of students, empowerment through entrepreneurial and industrial skills to contribute effectively to the welfare of the society in this dynamic era.
To impart contemporary progression in life sciences to the students, train the leadership qualities in science and technology, publish high-quality research papers, undertake research projects, establish industry-institute collaboration for training, employment and socio-economic empowerment, and enable students to face challenges by inculcating values to make them better citizens.
