The Department of Chemistry offers 3 year UG, 2 year PG and M.Phil/Ph.D research programmes. In the B.Sc chemistry course the curriculum includes general chemistry papers and elective subjects such as Polymer Chemistry, Dye Chemistry, Analytical and Biological Chemistry. A Job Oriented Certificate Course on “Instrumental Methods of Analysis” in tie-up with SITAARC is also offered which enables the students to get skill in operating sophisticated instruments. ALC (Advance Learning Course) is also available for proficient UG/PG students, which can be opted in the final year to earn extra credits. Group projects motivate the students to pursue research.
At the PG level advanced courses like Nanochemistry, Green Chemistry, Retro Synthesis, Polymer Chemistry, Organometallics and Bio-Inorganic Chemistry are offered. Students take up 3 month project work at reputed institutions like CECRI, IGCAR, CLRI, PSGIAS etc.
The course is a boon, as chemistry related jobs are plentiful not only in academic institutions but also in industries, research institutions and R&D Labs.
